FOOTBALL:
In an absolute deluge under a deep black Snoqualmie night sky, Bothell JV triumphed in gritty fashion over the JV Mt. Si Wildcats. Austin Sherman recovered the opening pooch kickoff from Max Anitei, which was turned into Bothell points when Cyion Soeum carried Mt Si defenders into the endzone. Jacob Aki then put the Cougs up 14-0 with a 4th down touchdown pass to Calen Dunnett, but the ‘Cats fought back with two touchdown passes of their own. After a big 4th down pass breakup in the endzone by Evan Asbell and Arvin Aujla to end the half, denying the Wildcats the lead, the score was tied 14 all.
After an Aki punt pinned the Cats at their own 15 after Bothell’s opening drive, Aujla intercepted a Wildcat pass, setting the Cougs up with great field position. After a physical drive in the pouring rain, Aki improvised a 4th down fumbled snap and kept the ball for a Cougar touchdown. 20-14 Bothell. The Bothell D held an inspired Mt Si offense to punt, aided by a Soeum sack on a sprintout. The wet conditions likely contributed to a fumbled snap on Mt Si’s punt attempt, which was recovered by Bothell in the Wildcat red zone. In spite of Mt Si’s defense continuing to load the box, a bruising, ground-and-pound drive resulted in another Soeum touchdown, igniting the Cougar sideline in the otherwise frigid conditions. The engine behind the score was an O-Line of Riley Meadows, Inoke Pomale, Nelson Arreola, Vishruth Venugobal, Josh Kinross, and Diego Valle. Lead blocks from Ryan Agate and Sean Fitts helped the Cougs pierce the Wildcat front. Aki scrambled and found Cam Wallace for the 2 point conversion, putting the Cougs up for good, 28-14.
Bothell JV moves to 7-0 on the year after the win. The gritty Cougs travel to Eastlake next Monday for a 6:30pm kickoff, for what is shaping up to be another rainy contest. The game will be livestreamed on YouTube by Eastlake’s video production team.
The Sophomore Cougs improved to 6-1 on the season with a 20-7 win on the road at Monroe.
Braeden Fischer started the scoring with a 9-yard TD run, followed by a 3-yard rushing TD from Steele Carlile. Matt Small capped the scoring with an incredible over-the-shoulder 9-yard TD pass to Rylan Edwards.
The play of the night was made on defense. Monroe completed a long pass, but Rylan Edwards chased the receiver down (ala DK Metcalf) and punched the ball out inside the five-yard line, resulting in a turnover.
