FASTPITCH:
Fastpitch is going to STATE!!!!!!
Varsity Fastpitch beat Eastlake last night 7-1 and in doing so we secured our first Fastpitch State berth since 2013.
Bothell will play Jackson for the District championship on Friday night at 6:00 at Phil Johnson.
Julianne Rose was fantastic again on the mound. She pitched 7 innings allowing only 1 run on 3 base hits and only 1 walk.
The Cougars took advantage of 2 errors by Eastlake in the 1st inning and jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Then up 2-0 in the second inning Julia Radvick ripped a double off the wall in right center field. Anna Fowler laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Julia over to 3rd base. With Taryn Bennett up to bat we tried a suicide squeeze bunt, but we were very fortunate to have the pitcher throw the pitch all the way to the backstop. Julia trotted in from 3rd to make the score 3-0.
Eastlake came back in the top of the 3rd with a walk and a couple hits to make the score 3-1 but Julianne struck out the Eastlake 3 hitter to get us out of the jam.
It didn’t take long for the Cougars to get that run back in the bottom of the 3rd when Kolbi Schmer led off the inning with a base hit. Sydney Whitehurst ran for Kolbi and with one out, Maya Bell laced a double into the right center gap. Sydney scored all the way from 1st to make the score 4-1. After another out Anna Fowler walked putting runners at 1st and 3rd with 2 outs. Anna Fowler did a perfect “half steal” and Maya Bell raced home as Eastlake’s throw to second and back to home was too late which made the score 5-1.
In the bottom of the 4th, Rachel Traxler led off with a sharp Base hit to Right field, which was her second hit of the day. Maleah Andrews ripped a Base hit to right field where Rachel was able to advance to 3rd base. Brooke Baker then hit a ground ball to 2nd base to score Rachel making the score 6-1.
The Cougars scored another run in the 6th inning to make it 7-1. Then Julianne did her thing striking out the final 3 batters in the 7th inning and sending Bothell into the state tournament.
The Cougars improved their record to 24-0 and will have their toughest game of the year when they take on the number 1 team in the state in Jackson who’s record is 21-1 on Friday night.
