Cell Phone Policy

Cell Phone Policy

Like many schools around the country, Bothell has experienced a sharp increase in discipline issues surrounding the use of cell phones. Violations of school and classroom rules, cheating, online bullying, coordinating meet-ups for extended group bathroom breaks, taking texts/phone calls during class, and using earbuds/headphones are routinely interrupting learning time. Our objective is to improve academic focus by freeing students of the pressure to constantly be connected. To that end, cell phone use will not be permitted during classes for the 2024-25 school year. During class time, all cell phones will be placed in a secure storage area.

We understand some parents may have concerns about being able to reach their children during school hours. Rest assured, they’ll still be permitted to use cell phones during passing periods and lunch breaks. Additionally, there are landlines available in all classrooms, offices, and common areas for communication needs. Our staff members are ready to assist students in utilizing these resources and ensuring their privacy when necessary. You can always call the Main Office as well (425-408-7000) - office staff will be able to reach your student easily.

In the case of an emergency at school, we need students to be focused on the adults who are trained to lead them through that situation. Parents will continue to receive alerts and updates through EasyAlert when unexpected events occur on campus.Students with documented medical needs requiring cell phone use (such as managing diabetes) or those with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and/or 504 plans with a documented cell phone requirement will receive accommodations to comply with the revised policy for their well-being and safety.

And truly, the well-being and safety of all our students is of utmost importance and we sincerely believe this will have a positive impact on the educational and social environment of Bothell High School.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or require further clarification.

Sincerely,
Juan Price
