In our continued commitment to our students’ college readiness and our ongoing improvement efforts, the annual PSAT/NMSQT exam will be administered to all juniors and sophomores at BHS on Wednesday, October 10 with results being available from the counseling office in mid-December.  The test will begin promptly at 7:45am.

The PSAT measures critical reading, math problem solving, and writing skills that are important for success in college and in other post-secondary pursuits and is the qualifying test juniors must take to enter the National Merit Scholarship Corporation scholarship program.

The exam will be administered on-site during the course of the school day at a reduced fee of $13.00 for all juniors and sophomores. Freshmen that registered and paid online through Total Registration will also test.

Preparing for testing day:

In order to ensure the best opportunity for success on the PSAT, it is recommended that students do the following prior to taking the test:

Read and familiarize themselves with the contents of the College Board’s Fall 2018 PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide.  The guide will answer all of the student’s questions regarding the test. It also has a practice test, allowing students the opportunity to preview the exam.

What to bring on testing day:

  1. Picture ID

  2. Calculator (as described in the College Board’s Fall 2018 PSAT student guide)  In alignment with what will occur when students sit for the SAT, calculators will not be provided if forgotten.

  3. Two #2 pencils and an eraser

For more information regarding the PSAT, please contact BJ Dawson in the counseling center.
