World Language Competency Test

World Language Competency Test

The Northshore School District offers students the opportunity to earn high school credit in a world language by demonstrating proficiency through the World Language Competency Test (WLCT). Students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency may also qualify for the Washington State Seal of Biliteracy on their high school diploma.

The 2025–26 WLCT is open to high school students only, with one written test date offered at each school between November and the end of January 2026.

The WLCT includes two parts: a written test and a spoken (verbal) test.

  • All students will begin with the written test.
  • Students who score high enough on the written portion will be invited to complete the spoken test at a later date.
  • Each portion of the test requires a separate payment.

Test Fees:

  • Written test: $80
  • Spoken test (if eligible): $80
  • Payments must be made through TouchBase. Students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals may have their test fees waived but must still register through the bookkeeper or in TouchBase.

Please note that there will be only one written test date per school. Students who do not attend their scheduled test will forfeit their fee. If you are ill or have a scheduling conflict, please notify the test coordinator at least 48 hours before your test date to be eligible for a refund.
