How to Export Your Data with Google Takeout

Google Takeout

As you prepare to leave Northshore School District, you may want to keep a copy of your school Google account data—emails, Google Drive files, and more. Google Takeout makes it easy to download everything before your account is disabled.

📦 What is Google Takeout?

Google Takeout is a service from Google that allows you to export and download your data from various Google services, including:

  • Gmail

  • Google Drive

  • Google Photos

  • Calendar

  • Contacts

  • and more!

✅ Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Go to Google Takeout

    • Make sure you're logged into your school Google account.

  2. Choose the data you want to export

    • By default, all services are selected. You can uncheck any that you don't need.

  3. Scroll down and click “Next step”

  4. Customize your export settings

    • Delivery method: Choose how you want to get your data (email download link is the easiest).

    • Frequency: Select “Export once.”

    • File type & size: Choose .zip and a size (2GB or larger is fine). If your data exceeds the size limit, it will be split into multiple files.

  5. Click “Create export”

    • Google will begin preparing your data. This may take minutes or hours, depending on how much data you have.

  6. Check your email

    • You’ll get a message with a link to download your data once it’s ready. Click the link and save your files to your personal device or cloud storage.

🗓️ Deadline

Be sure to complete your export no later than a year after you leave the district. After that, your school Google account will be deactivated, and your data will no longer be accessible.
